Let’s start with a couple of basic truths as follows: Coveting is one root of moral failure. Comparison is the root of coveting. Let’s look at some examples from the Holy Bible. ACHAN “But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed things, for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed things; so the anger of the Lord burned against the children of Israel.” The children of Israel had just experienced a tremendous victory at Jericho (their first battle after crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land). They decided at their next battle, which would be at Ai, that they take lots less men to battle because they had learned from spies sent out that the people of Ai were few. However the Israelites suffered terrible defeat at Ai. Joshua fell on his face and cried out to the LORD. God answered him, “For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff.” “There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.” Joshua called out (through revelation) the tribes, families, clans and households in the camp of Israel. It was found that Achan had taken a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels and hid them in the ground in the middle of his tent. He had taken the “accursed things” that belonged to God. Notice that in the original Hebrew―and depending on the context―what is “devoted to God” is “accursed to man” when stolen from God. So all Israel took Achan―with his sons, daughters, animals and tent … and the “accursed things” he had stolen―and burned them with fire after they had stoned them. ACHAN LUSTED AND STOLE FROM GOD EVE AND ADAM In the Garden of Eden, Eve was tempted by Satan. God had instructed Adam: “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Satan tempted Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which she did. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” NOTICE THIS: You can talk to God. He understands the situation. Ask Him for help. When you are tempted with coveting or lust, learn to say to the LORD, “Jesus, do you want to do this with me?” And, if you can’t ask that question—or feel uncomfortable asking it—then you know NOT to perform the action. Just because it feels good—or looks good—does NOT make it good. In Genesis 3:6 we read that Eve thought the fruit was:
But in 1 John 2:16 we read that, “For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.” And in verse 17, “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” EVE AND ADAM DISOBEYED GOD … OBEYED SATAN … ANANIAS & SAPPHIRA When the Holy Spirit was poured out on Jesus’ followers—on the Jewish Holiday of Pentecost—the people in the Early Church decided to have all things in common and share their goods in community with one another. They were so happy that the promised Messiah had come to pay for their sins on the cross-stake and was raised from the dead after three days. They were ALL Jews who followed Him … plus maybe a few unkown Gentiles. “Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.” (Acts 2:44) “Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.” (Acts 4:32) “Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.” (Acts 4:34-35) But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. Andhe kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.” Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things. Ananias and his wife, Sapphira,coveted the praise of others and fell prey to the pride of life. They wanted to compare themselves with the other believers—to be seen as sharing in like manner—while holding back part of the price of the land they sold. They did NOT even have to give the price of the land …it was theirs … but they wanted to look like the others who were sharing 100% … and therefore they lied to the Holy Spirit. ANANIAS AND HIS WIFE COVETED THE PRAISE OF MEN SUMMARY It’s easy to see that coveting and lust are bedpartners. It’s also easy to discern that the antidote―basically, the solution―to COVETING is contentment. “Now godliness with contentment is great gain.” “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.” The other bedpartner―LUST―can actually be removed with a good dose of faithfulness and self-control. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, Coveting and lust are basically stealing: wanting what is another’s. There are, also, some other areas of coveting that are often overlooked. Coveting can involve stealing from God. Stealing the glory―or the credit―that belongs to Him. Lack of respect for your neighbor … or another person or entity. Doing what Satan does: desiring to be like God. When Eve desired the fruit of the (forbidden) tree to make one wise, she was the same as attempting to sit in God’s throne. TAKE YOUR MEDICINE: REMEMBER: THE KEY: HELP FOR YOU: “Lord Jesus, I need help. I know you’re there. Please save me and forgive my sins.

In the Torah we read, “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Torah, Genesis 2:18)
Now … the word “Helpmeet” means different things to different people:
To Adam, it meant “Servant.”
To Eve it meant “Men need help!”
To G-d, it means, “Vengeance is mine!” (that’s a joke)
But the original root meaning of that word in the original Hebrew language is “aw-zar,” and it means “to surround; to help.” (It’s nice to have someone around to surround you at times, to help you.)
Notice the first command God gave to Adam and Eve: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.” (Torah: Genesis 1:28) They were to replenish not only the Garden, but humankind. Not, necessarily “kind humans” but children!!!
There’s an old saying, “It takes two parents to make one good child.”
After I wrote my thesis, I was told by two different doctors in two different states of the USA (in writing) the same as that I would never have children. Like Abraham, I just believed G-d that He would give me a child. When the wife was not pregnant by two months after we were married I called an orphanage to see if we could adopt; but was turned down.
Well, finally about 18 months later I was working on the lawn and the wife came downstairs and told me, “I’m pregnant.” I was so excited that I ran around a whole city block praising God. It took me about, probably, 7 to 10 minutes. When I returned, the wife was crying because she thought that when she told me she was pregmant I ran away!! Well, I have had seven (7) children since then!
Eve experienced the FIRST pains of childbirth. If you are a parent, you have undoubtedly experienced pains or sadness resulting from something that has happened to your child(ren). Giving life hurts, including spiritual life: helping others find and grow in the LORD … but JOY overrides any pain attributed to the life process.
One time, two of my daughters cut my hair – more correctly a hole in my hair – while I was sleeping. That was really a wonderful experience because I had to speak at a meeting in about two hours.
Another time, after an exhausting two weeks of outreach at the Olympics, while I was sleeping, two of my daughters put pink crème on my ears and were massaging them, trying to shape them like a Doberman’s trimmed ears (pointed straight up!). I think they wanted me to tryout for StarTrek.
On another occasion, one of my sons set the bed on fire underneath his mother while she was sleeping. (I haven’t figured that one out yet!)
I wonder what – not only sins, but stupid things – we have done to our LORD who stills is pleased to call us His children.
The Bible tells us the Messiah Yeshua, because of the JOY set before Him, endured the pain of the cross-stake.
“Looking unto Yeshua, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the JOY that was set before him endured the cross-stake, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
Because Messiah Jesus saw YOU and me having our sins forgiven because of what He was going to do (even with the suffering) on the cross-stake, He was willing to endure the PAIN and SUFERING of the Roman crucifixion.
WHAT IS IT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH TODAY, MY FRIEND?
I’M AWARE THAT I’M SPEAKING TO SOMEONE WHO IS ABOUT READY TO QUIT.
YOU HAVE BEEN MISTREATED … MISUNDERSTOOD … MISMANAGED … BUT MISINFORMED!
G-d has placed me in your path this day to tell you that it is NOT the people doing it to you … it is Satan, your enemy. Your are NOT listening to me by mistake, my friend.
The people who are attacking you are only instruments. God will deal with them. Their feet shall slide in due time.
But YOU must deal with the devil. And, I have GOOD NEWS for you! The LORD has given you authority over Satan. Use the name of Jesus and the Word of God against the devil. The devil is NO match for you when you are under the anointing of G-d. Jesus said, “Behold, I give unto you power … over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19)
He also said, “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the demons are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in Heaven.” (Verse 20)
Yeshua commanded YOU and me, His followers: “Whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall already have been bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall already have been loosed in heaven.” (Literal Greek translation from the Brit Chadashah, Hebrew New Testament: Matthew 18:18)
Messiah Yeshua did an unassisted triple play on a man who was: 1. Demon possessed; 2. Blind; and, 3. Could not speak. Immediately, the religious leaders accused Yeshua of casting out demons by the Prince of demons (Satan). Jesus answered them, “How can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.” In other words: bind Satan first, then go after his demons. Go after the demons who tell lies about you, or attack your finances, or your integrity … or who try to hinder you in anyway. Bind the strong man (Satan) and cast him out along with his demons that try to hinder you.
Here’s WHAT to do:
First, PRAY and plead (as in a LEGAL court pleading) the BLOOD of Messiah (or, Christ) over your situation.
Second, COMMAND the devil and his demons in the name of JESUS to depart … tell the devil and his evil spirits that Jesus is your LORD and you now APPLY the BLOOD of Jesus Christ against Satan and his hosts. Say it like this:
“Satan … Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel, is my LORD, and I APPLY His BLOOD that was shed on the cross for my sins against you, Satan and against all of your demons that would try to hinder me. I cast you and your demons out – away – from hindering me, and I remind you, Satan, of your future: which is Hell, the Lake of Fire … forever.”
Friend, if your life goals are set around ETERNAL things … things that last … like helping others to find The Way to Heaven … then you will at times experience some pain or hurt. But remember, “Weeping may endure for the night, but JOY comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5)
GIVING LIFE TO OTHERS (YOUR BIOLOGICAL CHILDREN AS WELL AS YOUR SPIRITUAL CHILDREN) SOMETIMES HURTS. HOWEVER, YOU ALWAYS HAVE POWER OVER THE DEVIL AND HIS DEMONS IN THE NAME OF JESUS WHO GIVES YOU AUTHORITY. BUT REMEMBER … YOUR REAL JOY SHOULD BE BECAUSE YOUR NAME IS WRITTEN IN HEAVEN. (AND … THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO RECEIVE MESSIAH THROUGH YOUR HELP ARE ALSO WRITTEN DOWN IN HEAVEN.)
“The JOY of the LORD is your strength.” (Tanakh: Nehemiah 8:10)

THE POWER OF A SEPARATED LIFE
After I became a follower of Messiah Yeshua I committed quality time to memorizing scripture. One of the key Bible portions I memorized was as follows:
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And, what communion has light with darkness?
Wherefore come out from among them, and you be separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
And I will be a Father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” [Brit Chadashah: 2 Corinthians 6:14, 17-18]
I didn’t have to leave my friends when I became a believer; they left me! When my lifestyle became different and my interests were focused in Godly avenues, there was no common ground. However, I still talked to my friends about the Lord, and prayed for them, and loved them with Messiah’s compassion. Thankfully, many of them are now followers of Yeshua who serve the Lord, including my immediate birth family, uncles, aunts, cousins . . . and now all of my children and grandchildren.
What a beautiful promise! God will be a Father to us: He will protect us, provide for us, and be personal in His relationship to us. Do you want to have a REALLY CLOSE walk with the Lord? Then learn and practice the beauty of a separated life.
In this teaching we will study the PURPOSE, the PRIVILEGE, the PROTECTION, and the PRODUCTIVITY of a separated life.
THE PURPOSE OF A SEPARATED LIFE
Why live a separated life?
“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as He which has called you is holy, so you be holy in all manner of behavior; because it is written, ‘You be holy, for I am holy’.” [Leviticus 11:45; 1 Peter 1:15-16]
THE PRIVILEGE OF SEPARATION
Why is it a privilege to live a separated life?
“For as much as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from your vain manner of living which you received by tradition from your fathers; but you were redeemed with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who truly was foreordained BEFORE the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for YOU.” [1 Peter 1:18-20]
“According as He has CHOSEN us in Him BEFORE the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.” [Ephesians 1:4]
THE PROTECTION OF SEPARATION
Living a separated life of holiness unto the Lord provides extra angelic protection for the believer.
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those that fear Him and delivers them.” [Psalm 34:7]
“Because you have made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, your habitation; there shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” [Psalm 91:9-11 – read the whole Psalm]
“And he answered, fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” [2 Kings 6:16-17]
Other examples: Daniel in the den of lions and the three Hebrew teenagers in the furnace of fire. These were Hebrews, who as teenagers had separated themselves unto God.
THE PRODUCTIVITY OF SEPARATION
Why is it productive to live a separated life?
“Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor.
If a person therefore cleanses himself from these [the works of dishonor and iniquity], he shall be a vessel unto honor, set apart, worthy, competent and profitable for the master’s use, prepared unto every good work.” [2 Timothy 2:19-21]
The greatest blessing you can have on earth is to walk with God!
Enoch walked with God, and he was not found anymore here on earth because God took him. [Genesis 5:24]
Elijah walked with God, and when it was time for him to go to Heaven, he was taken up by angels in a chariot surrounded by fire. [2 Kings 2:11]
You say, “But Apostle Handley, these were SPECIAL people.” Yes, and so are YOU . . . if you WANT to be. They were special people because they wanted to be special people.
The question is: “Do you WANT to be SPECIAL?”
The Holy Bible shows us that Elijah was just like you and me. He had the same emotions, the same temptations, and the same faculties. “Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” [James 5:17-18]
As we approach the last days of Planet Earth and the return of Israel’s Messiah we should all the more want to live a separated life. The Apostle Peter told us ahead of time:
“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of people should you be in all holy manner of living and godliness . . .” [2 Peter 3:10-11]
The Apostle Paul assigned Titus, a young preacher, the responsibility of pastoring and appointing elders in Crete and explained to him that it was profitable for believers to maintain good works. “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that you affirm constantly, that those people who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.” [Titus 3:8]
Paul also taught Timothy, who he placed in charge of the church at Ephesus, that there is great gain in living for God. “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” [1 Timothy 6:6]
If we are going to live a separated life so that we will be prepared to be used by the Master, then we have to be like a soldier. “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Yeshua ha Meshiach (Jesus the Messiah). No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, so that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” [2 Timothy 2:3-4]
Holiness is the principle that separates the believer from the world. Holiness is a quality of personal conduct that consecrates us to God’s service. The Apostle Paul urged the believers in his day . . . and urges us today through the scripture . . . to walk in holiness and thereby please God.
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.” [1 Thessalonians 4:3-4]
Notice, in the verse above, that YOU are to POSSESS your vessel: you are the owner . . . you are in control. Don’t say “The devil made me do it!” Don’t say, “I couldn’t resist!” Have you been struggling with a certain temptation? Then get on your knees and CRY OUT to God. Ask Him to deliver you and sanctify you. The Bible says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” [Psalm 50:15]
God is not dangling temptation in front of you to tempt you. “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone.” [James 1:13]
God has made a WAY for you to exit temptation, but you have to WANT to exit! “There has NO temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that which you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.” [1 Corinthians 10:13]
In the original Greek of which this passage was written it is actually saying that God will do the same as cut a path through a rock for you to make a way for you to escape . . . IF you WANT to escape! Cry out to Him and He will deliver you! God loves you and wants to help you. He also wants to use you to help others!
God may allow you to be tested from time to time, but only to see if you are worthy of Him investing His future talents and gifts in you so that you can be used for GREAT WORKS. What if after you have been used greatly, you mess up and ruin your testimony? Or, what if you make God or His people look bad?
Set apart a time for prayer and fasting to consecrate yourself to His service. Pray for a consecrated life: a life set apart in holiness and separation so you can be a vessel unto honor . . . worthy, competent, and profitable for the Master’s use . . . prepared unto every good work.
The more you are in the arena and productive for God, the more you will be shot at! And there will be different times you will need to draw on God’s strength through prayer and fasting. But always remember: Your best defense is a good offense. Keep reaching people for Messiah . . . keep under the anointing!

HOW TO SUCCEED WITH NOTHING
MUSIC / INTRO
While looking out my window one afternoon, the Lord asked me two questions:
“If you had nothing and had nobody to help you, how would you fulfill the Great Commission?”
“What would you tell the believers who are in prison, being persecuted for their faith, about how to reach the world for Messiah?”
I had been meditating that afternoon about such things, and the answer to the two questions the Lord asked came succinctly. I wrote down my answer to the Lord immediately, listing the following seven (7) tools with which to carry out the job … and win the world for Messiah Yeshua.
1. God’s Word, the Holy Bible;
2. Faith;
3. Prayer;
4. Jesus’ name;
5. Tongues;
6. Forgiveness; and,
7. Vision.
[] GOD’S WORD, THE HOLY BIBLE
In the Bible I can find 7,000 promises from God that are available to me, and from which I may appropriate my needs, deliverance, healing, favor, direction, and MIRACLES.
I would see in the Bible that God wants me to witness for Messiah: to give evidence of what Messiah has done for me through my words and actions. I would see that God wants me to lead people to Messiah and to train them. [Matthew 18:18-20] This would involve training them to do everything that Jesus had commanded me to do, including baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. I could help them perform Mikvah … or, baptize them in rivers, lakes, churches, oceans, bathtubs, or in tarpaulins in the desert.
This training would involve teaching them to witness for Christ, and to share their testimony with others. It would also include: preaching and teaching; healing the sick, and casting out demons. I would see the great need of establishing a school “behind every bush” to train believers.
In the Bible I would see God’s plan for the ages, and God’s plan for me. I would see God’s plan for the Synagogue and Church: the universal invisible Body of Messiah, and the local gathering of believers, whether two or three … or thousands … meeting together.
Yeshua taught us, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” [Brit Chadashah: Mattiyahu (Matthew) 18:20]
I would see the importance of establishing local synagogues and churches: groups of believers who gather to study God’s Word, to pray, and to worship Him; and from where the local community and government may be blessed; as well as people in other nations.
In the Bible I see God’s goals for Planet Earth and the Second Appearing of Messiah Jesus to Jerusalem to establish His kingdom for 1,000 years. I see that before He returns, the Gospel will be proclaimed and published among every nation, race, tribe, people, and ethnic group of the earth. [Mark 13:10]
[] FAITH
I would use my faith, based upon God’s promises in His Word and knowing what God wants (His will made known in His Word), to create and bring things into being. I would use faith, the same kind of faith that Abraham used, to believe God for what He says in His Word.
“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, ‘So shall your seed be’.”
“And being not weak in faith, he [Abraham] considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb [who was about 90]:
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully persuaded that, what God had promised, He was able also to perform.” [Romans 4:18-21]
So … if you KNOW what God has promised you in His Word, all you have to do is BELIEVE and OBEY … like Abraham!
MUSIC
[] PRAYER
Jesus taught us, “And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.” [Matthew 21:22].
I would use prayer not only to talk to God and be in close companionship with Him, but also to make my requests known to Him. I would tell Him what I need and want, and ask for advice as to how to operate to achieve my goal.
James, the first bishop of the church at Jerusalem, and the Lord’s brother, taught us:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all men liberally, and does not reprimand for asking; and it shall be given to you.” [James 1:5]

[] JESUS’ NAME
Jesus said, “If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.” [John 14:14]
When you as a believer use the name of Jesus you are identifying with the Master of the universe. It is that name at which demons and Satan tremble, and at which they must become subservient to you. Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues …” [Mark 16:17]
The name of Jesus lets demons know the authority in and under which you are operating. It is not only your Power of Attorney, but it is also your POWER! It is the name which gives you life.
“But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.” [John 20:31]
Use the name of Jesus to not only bring deliverance to others, but to maintain your own freedom, power, and blessing. And so it is with the name of YAHWEH, the Hebrew name of The LORD: the self existent One.
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous run into it, and are safe.” [Proverb 18:10]
[] TONGUES
Tongues, the language of the Spirit, is the software that makes it possible for you to decree supernaturally. When you speak in faith, based upon God’s Word and will, you decree miraculously. However, there are times when you do NOT know what to decree … OR … how to speak the proper programming language. Tongues, the language of the Holy Spirit, enables the believer in Christ to accomplish this.

[] FORGIVENESS
Yesterday, a person who is not a Christian asked me this question: “In what area of your life are you most often challenged to use your faith?” I didn’t have to think long. My answer was, “In the area of forgiveness.” This is an area in which we need to make sure we are “clear” at the start of every day. And, actually, at the end of every day!
I remember as a little boy, one night just after I had covered up in bed, my older sister said to me, “Daddy told us never to go to bed mad at each other.” And then we made up with each other. The Holy Bible tells us, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” [Ephesians 4:26]
It may not be a wrathful or angry situation that is bothering you. It may be a strained relationship, bad thoughts towards someone, a word of gossip. Or, it may be nothing you’ve done wrong; it may be something someone has said or done to you … or said about you … and that is bothering you, especially if you are undeserving of the words or action.
Jesus taught us, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” [Matthew 6:14-15] Unforgiveness is something you can’t take to Heaven!
In Mark 11:22-26, Jesus told the disciples, “Have faith in God.” He taught them about speaking in faith, and about receiving in faith. However, he also taught them at the end of this contextual passage that there was something that could hinder them from receiving miracles and answered prayer: it was unforgiveness.
“And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone: so that your Father also which is in Heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in Heaven forgive your trespasses.” [Verses 25 and 26]
If God can forgive us of a whole lifetime of sin and disobedience – even sins about which no person on earth knows – can we not forgive someone else for the one, or a few, or even many sins they have committed towards us?! And … if our Heavenly Father had not made a WAY for us to be forgiven by sending His only Son to die in our place on the cross stake … we would be under the constant condemnation of death and Hell. How can we not forgive others?!
Every day I start my day with what is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer (the disciples prayer He taught them). I clear out any unforgiveness or bitterness so that I can pray successfully and in power … AND … so I can experience success. My prayers for myself, friends, associates, and loved ones … and the prayers for others around the world … depend upon me forgiving others.
“And you be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.” [Ephesians 4:32]
[] VISION
When was the last time you “dreamed” for God? IMAGINE! What would your life and ministry be like if your present hindrances were removed? And, what would your life be like if you could accomplish all the things you IMAGINE … or ASK for? C. S. Lewis, in his book The Weight of Glory, said, ” … our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak!”
David succeeded in killing the giant, Goliath, the same way the two men of faith, Caleb and Joshua, succeeded in entering the promise land: because he SAW, as they did, obstacles as opportunities for MIRACLES: avenues through which God could be glorified! The size of the person is more important than the size of the problem. Who are you on the inside and in Whom do you trust!
Don’t focus on the giants … focus on God. That’s why the enemy lies to you. The devil wants to get your attention away from your Heavenly Father: away from His love for you and His ability to provide for you.

Jeshua taught us, “But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.” [Luke 5:38] Think PAST the limits of your mind. Stretch out your horizon of ENDEAVORS and THOUGHTS. “These things began Jesus both to DO and to TEACH.” Base your thoughts, your goals, and your endeavors upon God’s Holy Word. Use your faith!
Think BIG!
Believe!
Receive!
Act!
Multiply!
To SEE with the mind’s eye … that is, to envision … can encompass the following: imagination, thinking, and decision making. To “cut out” with the mind’s eye is to SEE IT, or to THINK IT upon the tablet of your heart or human spirit.
In Job 22:28 we read, “You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto you…” In the original Hebrew language the word “decree” is a primitive root form of the word “gazar“, which means “to cut out exclusively, or to decide“. In its primitive form it is used also as a “quarrying” term … as in cutting out stone from a rock quarry. It means more than to “say” or “speak.” It conveys the meaning of “cutting something out in your mind’s eye”; that is, “to envision [to make a vision], to decide upon it, and confess it” … and then it will be established unto you!
To decree is the progenitor (or, precursor) of heart belief and mouth confession. It is BOTH the nucleus and “all-encompassing” embryo of initiating great moves of the Holy Spirit on Planet Earth. This is why we need to SPEND TIME MEDITATING GOD’S WORD. We’re NOT talking about New Age type meditation, which can actually be used, and even energized, by demonic forces. We’re talking about MEDITATING God’s Word so we KNOW HOW to work in alignment with our Father in Heaven, Jehovah.
Increase your vision. What can you SEE? What can you IMAGINE? How greatly can you ASK or THINK?
“Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ASK or THINK, according to the power that works in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” [Ephesians 3:20, 21]
At the beginning of this podcast I shared with you two questions the Lord asked me:
“If you had nothing and had nobody to help you, how would you fulfill the Great Commission?”
“What would you tell the believers who are in prison, being persecuted for their faith, about how to reach the world for Messiah?”
I answered those two questions in this teaching. You might ask me: “How do you know what it’s like to be in jail for Yeshua?” I know because I HAVE BEEN in jail for Jesus … for preaching His Gospel. Never teach what you can’t do.
“The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began to DO and TEACH.” [Acts 1:1]
Nine (9) people were saved as a result of the Holy Spirit using me to preach inside the jail cell, plus the Lord gave me victory in one of the largest court cases of this kind.
“Then said Yeshua unto him, ‘Go, and do thou likewise’.” [Luke 10:37]

HOW TO MAINTAIN A POSITION OF SPIRITUAL POWER
One of the definitions of power is “the capacity to influence other people or the course of events.” In my last teaching titled “Decision, Determination, and Destiny” (the story of Ruth) we saw that Ruth was propelled from poverty to status as a world class influence because of her willingness:
1. To change;
2. To learn; and,
3. To receive.
Once she obtained her position of power as the wife of Boaz, she maintained it and ultimately became a member of Royal Ancestry: it was through her seed line that the Messiah Jesus was born. Through her progeny … because of her decision to make major changes … every person on Planet Earth has the decision making ability to choose to go to Heaven and live with God forever.
Question: What are you doing with the talents, skills, and abilities which Almighty God has given you? What are you doing in your position of power . . . or ARE YOU in a position of power?
When I’m in my home area I walk out in the mornings on the patio and see some of the most beautiful buildings in the world: great challenges of engineering, architecture, and construction; inspiring and aesthetic grandeur. I think of how God gave men the skills, the wisdom, and the materials to make such awesome objects of beauty. How much more excellent is the universe which God created … and how wonderful the human body which God created?
I then think about the buildings, as beautiful as they are, being in a CLOSED SYSTEM. Then I see the trees near the buildings: gorgeous palm trees, even evergreen trees, and also some deciduous trees. And, I realize the new trees – while growing – are in an OPEN SYSTEM.
Once the last weldment, the last wall board, the finish trim are in place … a building is then in a CLOSED SYSTEM. It starts the process of deterioration, and through the years needs maintenance … possible restoration … until it has seen its last days.
A fetus in the womb of its mother is in an OPEN STATE. It is developing and growing, but as soon as it parts the womb it is then on a path of limited number of years and becomes a CLOSED SYSTEM.
The Bible tells us that our average life span is 70 to 80 years; of course, some people – like my mother – live much longer … and of course, some people live much shorter. We should at the least expect this average longevity and believe God for it.
“The days of our years are threescore and ten; and if by reason of strength they are fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away.” [Psalm 90:10]
This Psalm, of course, was written under the Old Covenant (or, Testament). Thank God, when we know Yeshua ha Meshiach (Jesus the Messiah) personally we can experience JOY every day of our life, even in times of trial and heartbreak. We can LEARN how to create an open system … that will develop from and during the closed system of this mortal life on earth … through parallel goals that will endure throughout eternity.
We hear a lot of talk today about having an “exit plan,” especially with reorganization in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. It is important for us to have an exit plan. Our exit plan should be EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN our long term goal(s). We should also have parallel goals: one of which is consistently the same. The goal which is always the same is this: to honorably represent Messiah and give glory to God.
The other parallel goal will be determined when we spend time with God in His Word and in prayer as we RECEIVE His will for our lives. If we are in the PERFECT CENTER OF HIS WILL, then what we do … God does!
When the children of Israel were at the edge of the Red Sea, being chased by Pharaoh and 600 of his chosen chariots of war, God told Moses, “But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the middle of the sea.” [Exodus 14:16]
However, in verse 21 we read, “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea: and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.”
After you have heard from God, you have to take the “step of faith.” When the children of Israel were at the Jordan River ready to go into the promised land, the water did not part until the priests put their feet into the water.
Other than finding Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) as your personal savior, here’s one of the greatest things you can learn in life:
IF YOUR PLAN FITS INTO GOD’S PLAN …
………. YOU WILL HAVE GOD’S FAITH …
……………….. AND GOD’S FAITH ALWAYS WORKS!
That’s why some people never fail permanently. They may hit the pit 10 or 20 times, but they always rise up victoriously! “For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” [Proverb 24:16]
If you are not in an open state at this time, then ask yourself: “Why?” Don’t blame someone else. If it is a problem of sin, then pray and ask God to forgive you. Repent … turn from the situation or practice that is keeping you from spiritual growth and development. If you do not know yeshua as your Lord … then pray and ask Jesus to take control of your life … to save you and lead you the rest of your time here on earth.
Develop the habit of asking the Holy Spirit to teach you something from the Bible every day that will help you in learning about your two parallel goals:
GOAL #1 – To honorably represent Messiah and give glory to God.
GOAL #2 – To accomplish the GREAT WORK for which you were created; the thing that is the DEEP DESIRE within your heart.
Once we have established a position of spiritual power, we need to maintain it. As in football, basketball, baseball, rugby, or any sport … our best defense is a good offense! Build relationships with other people … don’t burn them! Rabbi Shaul (Paul) was constantly building good, permanent relationships by leading people to Messiah and by training them to be disciples and followers of the Lord.
We need to be soul winners. I know some rabbis and ministers who go a whole day never telling anyone about Messiah … and then use the excuse that their job is only to equip the believers. The real JOY of life is helping people find eternal life through Yeshua and then helping them to grow and be productive leaders.
In a previous teaching, Keys To Foundational Relationships, we discussed that sometimes it is God’s will for us to break off relationships, but that is surely NOT the case all the time! If you have a problem constantly breaking off relationships with people, then ask God for healing.
Usually such problems arise out of insecurity or out of “fear of failure” to handle situations: insecurity that is usually imbedded from childhood; or, “fear of failure” resulting from repeated past negative performance. Also, the problems may occur sometimes because of a bad spirit (a demon) and must be dealt with by prayer, confession of the Word of God, and sometimes counseling accompanied by exorcism.
Remember, with Messiah Yeshua you have a new start every day. Learn to cultivate good friendships with people. Show them . . . and yourself … that the Holy Spirit lives in you.
King Saul was a classic case of a “bridge-burner.” King David was a classic case of a “bridge builder.” [1 Samuel Chapters 10 through 31] “Bridge-burning” usually results from insecurity, fear, or jealousy … or a combination of them; and often manifests with the OLD order trying to “spear” the NEW order to the wall. King Saul was jealous of the anointing from God upon David! He was mad at David and afraid of him because God was with him. [1 Samuel 18:5-12]
Be aware of something: The “new order” does not necessarily mean young in age or seniority … or inexperienced. The “new order” can be older people … seasoned, experienced people … breaking away from established form: form that was once fresh with the Spirit.
If we find ourselves in the “old order”, we need to build bridges with the “new order” to establish UNITY for the Lord’s sake. This will accomplish two things:
1. It will assure that we are open to what the Spirit is doing; and,
2. It will place us in a position of blessing to receive a new anointing, and to receive God’s best as a “peace-maker” for unity’s sake [Matthew 5:9]). This way we maintain a position in an OPEN SYSTEM.
When we pray the suggested guidelines for daily prayer as the Lord suggested (the disciple’s prayer [Luke 11:1-4]), we are asking for God’s will … and IF we mean what we pray … we will be open to what God WANTS and what God DOES. God wants unity among his people and He honors “bridge-building” [Ephesians 4:3]. To fulfill your service to the world and to maintain your position of power in an OPEN SYSTEM, you must build bridges!
Maybe you have had a problem with this in the past … or maybe you are having a problem with this NOW. Your situation may be one where a person is angry with you … maybe rightfully so, or maybe wrongfully. Well … I’ve got good news for you. It’s “turn around” time. Here is a promise you can claim:
“Surely the wrath of man shall praise you [God]: and the remainder of wrath you shall restrain.” [Psalm76:10]
Pray and ask God to turn the situation around and make the past anger, or wrath, turn into praise to God. Let the situation PRAISE HIM! And then, ask God to RESTRAIN the remainder of the wrath so there will be no more anger. It works; I’ve used that promise many times.
Two other things that are very important in maintaining an OPEN SYSTEM, and of which we should be cognizant, are as follows:
1. To ACKNOWLEDGE the help and work of those with whom we are associated.
2. To develop the ability to graciously RECEIVE.
Now YOU … like Ruth … can be a world class influence: operating in an open system of spiritual power, and changing nations and generations for eternity!
